The role promotes client-focused financial services across Queensland Corrective Services and actively contributes to the improvement of business processes and systems to enable service improvement of the Command. The Management Accountant reports to the Principal Management Accountant.

The Management Accountant provides assistance to the Principal Management Accountant by undertaking a range of financial functions including those activities associated with the financial management of statutory requirements, financial analysis, budget reporting, accrual accounting processes and general ledger activities. The role promotes client-focused financial services across Queensland Corrective Services and actively contributes to the improvement of business processes and systems to enable service improvement of the Command. The Management Accountant reports to the Principal Management Accountant.
In this role you will:
- Assist in monitoring and advising on variations in expenditure, revenue and activity, which affect budgetary performance and activity targets.
- Assist in finalisation of monthly financial performance reporting and provide strategic advice on remedial action as appropriate, managing priorities within a timely manner.
- Provide a high level of financial and business advisory support including analysis, investigation and written and oral communication of budget trends and variances.
- Present quality financial, staffing and activity data compared to budgets, targets, benchmarks, and key performance indicators.
- Support strategic and operational planning activities.
- Involvement in annual operating budget preparation and regular forecasting based on guidance and input from the Principal Management Accountant.
- Actively participate in the development, implementation, review and maintenance of internal systems, processes and work practices.
- Identify areas for improvement and recommend and or implement enhancements to existing practices.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation including Financial Accountability Act, QCS policy documents, procedures, organisational policies, regulations, and standards.
- Actively participate in and ensure a working environment which is motivated, productive and committed to client service as well as compliant with quality human resource management.
The essential requirements for this role are:
- Knowledge of, or a demonstrated ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge of the principles, practices and public sector policies relating to financial management and how these relate apply to your specific tasks role and QCS business areas.
- Ability to understand and comply with legislation, policy and regulated frameworks as they relate to financial management.
- Ability to provide clear and timely advice, adjusting communication style and language to fit the audience appropriately.
- Strong communication skills including negotiating processes and ability to relate positively to others.
- Demonstrated computer skills, particularly in the use of Microsoft Excel and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software systems.
- Demonstrated written communication and research skills including the ability to prepare reports and submissions on complex matters
- Interpersonal skills that assist with the coordination and completion of tasks that require input and verification by a range of stakeholders
- Problem solving and analytical skills for investigating and resolving issues, and for improving practices and processes
- Ability to prioritise workload to meet deadlines
