The Research and Evaluation Group supports QCS in ensuring its programs, initiatives and operations are informed by the latest evidence and research.

It is tasked with working with external researchers and conducting its own internal research and evaluation projects to build a strong evidence-base to support decision-making around QCS policy and practice, aligned with QCS strategic direction.

The role of the Principal Advisor Research and Evaluation is to contribute to this work through the provision of evidence-based research and analytical support by managing and conducting complex and ethically sound research and evaluation projects.

In this role you will:

  • Perform research activities relevant to criminal justice, correctional management, prisoner rehabilitation, contemporary offender intervention concepts, as well as community corrections frameworks, models and management concepts.
  • Develop literature reviews, other research outputs and analyse research data to make contemporary practice and evidence-based recommendations to the Director, to affect service improvement, expansion and enhancement in QCS.
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative research and use data collected to draw evidence-based conclusions that inform the future of QCS strategy and activities.
  • Contribute to the functions of the overarching research governance mechanisms within QCS, such as project boards, reference groups and committees.
  • Work collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders to manage research projects, with thought partners, such as academics and tertiary institutions, including representing QCS or the Research and Evaluation Group at interjurisdictional. inter-agency and internal project working groups or committees
  • Provide high level advice to the Director, Research and Evaluation Group, , and the Assistant Commissioner, QCS Strategic Futures Command.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of QCS legislation and policy.
