About us
With branches in Rockhampton, Mackay and Barcaldine and a site office in Emerald, the Transport and Main Roads Program Delivery and Operations (PDO) Central Queensland Region (CQ Region) looks after 9076km of state-controlled roads and about 1510km of the National Road Network. This role will contribute to the development and delivery of the Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program (QTRIP).
The CQ Region covers an area of about 604,824km2, approximately 34.9% of Queensland. Its landscape ranges from beautiful coastal areas adjoining the Great Barrier Reef and rainforests to the rugged outback with breathtaking rock formations. The region has an estimated residential population of 422,141 people.

The Role
In the role of Principal Designer (Civil) you will manage the operational aspects pertaining to the delivery of planning and design projects as components of transport infrastructure projects. You will play a key leadership role in providing advice and direction about the interpretation, application and review of relevant planning and design policies, standards, and guidelines across the range of transport infrastructure planning and design activities undertaken in the District.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
• Managing the delivery of a program of planning and design projects through the implementation of best practice to achieve value for money outcomes for transport infrastructure projects.
• Supervise and coordinate resource allocation to component projects and services which support the transport infrastructure functional areas in the Region to encourage teamwork and staff development.
• Providing leadership, conceptual thinking, and resolution of complex problems to various stakeholders for successful completion of transport infrastructure projects.
• Ensuring that planning and design principles are implemented in accordance with the relevant policies, standards, guidelines and legislation, and that quality management is consistent with the required standards.
• When managing component projects, you will provide support and advice on the planning and design processes aligned with the relevant phases of corridor planning, program development, program delivery, and program finalisation.
• Development of effective relations with internal and external stakeholders to identify and address needs, expectations and issues that may affect the successful delivery of projects.
Mandatory qualifications and conditions
• A minimum three-year, Sydney Accord accredited engineering degree such as a Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Civil) or recognised equivalence.
• A current Class ‘C' Drivers Licence
• Due to this role having access to sensitive data, a criminal history check will be undertaken prior to appointment to the role.
Desirable qualifications and conditions
• Experience in transport infrastructure planning and design will be highly regarded.
• Experience with AutoCAD and 12d Model software packages.
