The core capability requirements for this role are:
- Develop, deliver, and evaluate operational skills-based training and develop curriculum in accordance with policies, best practices, procedures and in support of improved professional standards.
- Develop, plan, write and coordinate the development of course material, curriculum and student assessment strategies.
- Conduct needs analysis to determine training requirements of staff and contribute to the development of strategies to meet these requirements.
- Undertake assessment and remedial activities of staff & students and prepare documentation based on these assessments.
- Development and deliver orientation, training and mentoring processes to support training officers as required.
- Engage innovatively in identifying and implementing appropriate processes to ensure continued Program improvement.
- Establish and maintain effective communication channels with internal and external clients and stakeholders to identify efficiencies, consistently and enhance service delivery outcomes relating to operational skills related education and training.
- Apply adult education methodologies to Queensland Police Service operational skills training programs and internal education and training policies and processes.
- Research and maintain an up-to-date knowledge of subject matter requirements relating to the area.
Role Requirements:
Mandatory -
- While there is no mandatory requirement for this role, possession of a Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training or qualifications deemed equivalent will be considered favourably.
Other -
- The successful applicant may be required to perform duty at other training locations within the greater Brisbane area.
- The occupant of this position will supervise staff, sworn officers and recruits in the delivery of education and training.
- An Open C class licence is required.
- The occupant of this position will report to the Manager in charge of the unit to which they have been assigned and may be required to work in any section of Operational Training Services.
- The successful applicant may be required to successfully complete all relevant operational skills and tactics and/or driving skills courses if not already in possession of equivalent qualifications including District Firearms Training Officer, Police Operational Skills and Tactics Instructors, Taser Instructor, Active Armed Offender Instructor, Tactical First Aid Training Instructors and Driver Training courses.
- Hearing - The successful applicant will be required to undergo a baseline hearing assessment by a QPS approved PEMS provider. The hearing assessment will be evaluated without the use of artificial aids and a loss of 35 decibels on the ISO 389 scale (at 500, 1000, 2000Hz), no more than 40 decibels (at 3000Hz) and no more than 50 decibels (at 4000Hz on a pure tone audiometer) in either ear is considered significant and is normally unacceptable for recruiting purposes. Successful applicants will be required to undergo yearly hearing tests and at any time as deemed necessary by QPS
- Blood Lead Level - The successful applicant will be required to undergo a baseline blood level test prior to commencing firearms activities and will be required to undertake further testing as deemed necessary by QPS.
- The successful applicant may be required to perform duty within any program/branch of Operational Training Services.
