As our Senior Scientist (Sustainable grazing systems), you will:
• Build and maintain effective collaborative partnerships within DPI; across government; industry (e.g. Natural Resource Management bodies, AgForce and
Meat and Livestock Australia); and research institutions to enhance Queensland's grazing landscape productivity, biodiversity and greenhouse gas emissions.
• Negotiate, lead and undertake projects that support Queensland's extensive beef, sheep and goat industries to demonstrate and improve environmental sustainability, while enhancing their profitability, productivity and competitiveness. Build knowledge and skills for the effective research, development and extension of options to evaluate and demonstrate industry sustainability. Skills in grazing land management research, remote sensing, greenhouse gas emissions and sequestration, biodiversity and grazing land bioeconomic modelling are desirable.
• Advance projects in accordance with Departmental policy and relevant strategic government and industry policy and priorities.
• Assist in the design and delivery of the agency's drought resilience, reef water quality and carbon extension programs and other R&D initiatives aimed at increasing the profitability and sustainability of grazing industries.
• Ensure that project deliverables are of a high standard and are delivered to influence adoption by industry, and that project management and governance processes are exemplary of a leading RD&E organisation.
• Analyse, interpret and solve difficult problems, engaging team and management input to provide accurate and timely solutions.
• Possess a high level of verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, relate well to people at all levels, build effective teams, and foster key relationships with internal and external RD&E investors and stakeholders.
• Provide professional leadership in developing high performing teams through mentoring staff, creating measurable and attainable goals, and building strong morale.
• Provide guidance to senior management on issues relating to sustainable grazing in multi-use landscapes, external reporting on emissions reduction targets, and natural capital outcomes including biodiversity.
