The opportunity:
As our Team Leader, you will:
• Manage the Forest Product Innovation team which includes supervising, training and performance managing staff across multidisciplinary teams and also work independently as required.
• In consultation with Forestry Science and other key stakeholders, develop, lead and manage a portfolio of Research, Development and Extension projects which enhance the environmental sustainability, productivity, profitability and growth of Queensland's forest products industries.
• Provide science leadership, advice and reporting for Queensland's forest products industries, ensuring a high standard of science and scientific outputs are maintained and reported/promoted through internal and external processes and influence the adoption by industry of new technologies, products and practices.
• Strategically advance current and future collaborative links and partnerships with relevant sectors of the industry, external funding bodies, public sector and other relevant agencies in activities pertaining to the programs and work unit.
• Integrate the RD&E within the Division and with other science Divisions in Agri-Science Queensland to deliver both operational efficiencies and innovations to Queensland's forest products industries.
• Initiate, lead and participate in the development and management of collaborative research project proposals at State, National and International levels in the areas of forest product evaluation, process and product development.
• Identify new and emerging national and international research trends, technologies and investment opportunities to ensure the future profitability and sustainability of the Forest industries in an environment of competing land uses, climate variability and change.
• Influence the adoption by industry of new technologies and practices and provide technological solutions and novel products to encourage profitable investment in sustainable forest resources and timber processing enterprises in Queensland.
What are we looking for?
There are some qualifications/licences that we see as essential. You must possess:
• It is a mandatory requirement for a professional officer to possess an Australian Bachelor degree (AQF level 7 or equivalent) or higher in Forestry Science, Agriculture, Engineering, Mathematics or related Science from a recognised tertiary institution.
• For international qualifications, the applicant will need their qualification assessed, to determine comparability with the Australian Qualifications Framework. The Department of Employment, Small Business and Training can assist with these assessments for Queensland residents.
• A current ‘C' class drivers' licence.
You may also have:
• Experience in leadership and preparing proposals for R&D grants, high quality technical reports, and project reports and scientific papers.
