Industry Liaison Officer (Waste)

Our department leads environmental protection and regulation in Queensland, protecting our environment for today, and future generations. Queensland's industry sector also plays a key role in contributing positive outcomes for Queensland.
The newly created Industry Liaison Officer role is aimed at establishing a direct and strategic link between the department and industry for the purpose of improving regulatory compliance and performance. Capitalising on your experience with the waste industry, you will be leading stakeholder and community engagement activities, attendance at events to maximise networking and learning, and ultimately, assisting the department build a stronger and lasting relationship with industries.
This exciting role has a state-wide remit, can be based at any of the departments work centres across the state and has access to flexible work arrangements.

To support the Government's commitment to Queenslanders, a new Industry Liaison Officer position has been created to be a direct connection with the Waste and Recycling Industry of Queensland, which may extend into other industries in the future.
The position requires knowledge and experience of best practice within industry, stakeholder engagement and awareness of emerging trends, be an excellent communicator and connector.
Ultimately, you are the direct link between government and industry, tasked with helping business confidently navigate Queensland's regulatory landscape.
You will be at ease briefing executives and networking with stakeholders, strengthening partnerships and building trust across the sector, representing the department at events and forums.
What we are looking for
We're looking for the best suited applicant for the role. We'll do this by assessing your eligibility and your suitability to undertake the requirements of the role (including, where relevant, the way you carried out previous roles). We'll also consider your potential to make contributions to the department and how your engagement would support our commitment to equity, diversity, respect and inclusion.
This position requires:
• High-level knowledge and experience of best practice within the waste industry and/or stakeholder engagement and a strong understanding of emerging trends in engagement practices including digital engagement.
• Extensive experience defining, planning and implementing effective industry engagement strategies for complex projects, with a focus on trust-building and long term relationship development.
• Very strong interpersonal skills required to communicate, interact, influence and build relationships with people, and proven ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders including First Nations peoples.
• Ability to work both autonomously and as an effective team member, demonstrating initiative and independence in achieving outcomes.
• Very strong writing skills including preparation of complex information in a short, concise manner, and the ability to tailor information to audience needs.
• Senior level experience in managing contentious issues of public interest and expert problem-solving skills to devise and deliver appropriate actions, and contingencies in times of uncertainty.
• Demonstrated strong digital engagement skills and tactics, with a sound understanding of analysis methods, including statistics, to interpret results and inform decision-making.
• Contribution to workplace equity and diversity that enriches our culture of safety, innovation, respect and inclusion.
