The key responsibilities
• Conduct and coordinate high level advice and analysis on a wide range of policy, strategic and confidential matters.
• Lead and manage the effective delivery of projects through scoping and planning, establishing governance arrangements, managing allocated resources and developing methodologies for future work programs. This includes the coordination of work programs that involve legislation changes.
• Build, maintain and develop strong and effective relationships, work collaboratively and negotiate extensively with divisional staff and other areas of the department and external stakeholders as required including Government Owned Corporations, to manage and monitor projects and policy initiatives and report on their progress and outcomes.
• Exercise high levels of judgement to effectively manage competing priorities while working collaboratively with colleagues, or individually, to deliver workloads on time and which meet customer's expectations.
• Contribute to a positive and effective team culture by playing a lead role in work area goal setting, service improvement and other Unit/Divisional activities.
• Lead and motivate a policy team to promote an accountable, fair and safe work environment.
• Proactively manage the work performance and personal conduct of your team.
Success criteria
To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate the following:
• Demonstrated experience and leadership in policy development.
• Experience in communicating with internal and external stakeholders and building relationships to establish mutually beneficial connections.
• Ability to respond in a fast-paced environment and deliver results.
• Demonstrated experience in managing competing priorities and customer and stakeholder expectations.
• Experience in leadership and motivating a team.
• Energy expertise and an understanding of the energy sector including energy generation and transmission is highly desirable, but not essential
