Principal Accountant

An AO7 Principal Accountant vacancy is available in the Finance Division of the Queensland Revenue Office. This role will be based in the Brisbane CBD.
In this role you will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations and providing guidance to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with relevant standards and regulations. Additionally, you will serve as the primary point of contact for escalated queries and manage the team's workload.

Your typical day as a Principal Accountant - may include:
• Review of month end journals and variance analysis commentary including providing feedback and support to team members.
• Allocation of monthly tasks to team members.
• Responding to ad hoc financial queries and providing guidance.
• Review of financial data and reporting prepared by team for distribution to stakeholders.
• Supporting team in completion of daily tasks including providing any necessary training.
• Supporting the team manager and director in providing detailed responses to management queries and requests in a timely manner.
You will be supported by a positive, constructive team and divisional leaders as you do your work.
Key responsibilities include:
• Preparing and contributing to funding submissions, budget papers, and budgetary briefs for estimate hearings.
• Leading and coaching team members, leveraging experience to enhance their professional growth and development, contributing to a skilled and motivated team.
• Coordinating the preparation of management reports (e.g., dashboard reports) ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant standards and providing insights into financial performance to support the Manager, QRO Finance.
• Providing expert advice and guidance to internal and external stakeholders on budgetary and financial management matters, enabling strategic decision-making.
• Overseeing the upload of financial data, ensuring general ledger integrity and accuracy of data.
• Ensuring accurate and timely review of work, including month-end journals, year-end deliverables, and management of team deadlines.
• Fostering and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders.
• Developing budgets and support the team to effectively monitor ongoing financial performance.
