About us
North Queensland Region consists of Far North, North West and Northern districts with offices in Cairns, Cloncurry and Townsville the region extends from the tip of Australia (including islands), west to Camooweal (Northern Territory border) and as far south as Home Hill.

The region has a population of over 546,000 people and incorporates 35 local governments and is supported by agriculture, tourism, fishing, mining and retail.

The region manages 1,756kms National Highways, 6,335km State controlled roads and has 35,483km local government roads. The North Queensland area covers 589,240km2 (38.2% of Queensland State).

The Role
In the role of Communications Advisor, you will contribute to the efficient delivery of the North Queensland Region's Queensland Transport and Roads Investment
Program (QTRIP) in the Northern district by providing strategic communication services to technical and professional staff for community engagement, media relations, issues management, public affairs, and stakeholder relationship management.

Some of your responsibilities will include:
• Provide strategic communications advice and support to the District Director, project managers and other staff about community and stakeholder engagement, issues management and risk assessment.
• Coordinate community and stakeholder engagement for QTRIP projects in the district including development and implementation of communication and engagement. strategies, researching and writing project communication materials, media enquiry responses and releases, adhering to brand guidelines and TMR style guides.
• Plan, develop, and coordinate key communication activities such as community events and consultation activities, road openings or commissioning, roadshows and displays, media opportunities, and other events as determined by the district or region, that contribute to the effective delivery of QTRIP projects.
• Research and prepare executive correspondence, project briefing materials, and reporting for leadership and project teams, maintaining a high degree of integrity and confidentiality, using systems in accordance with record management policy and procedures.
• Foster a customer-focused team environment that builds relationships across the function and other business areas, sharing knowledge and experience to build reputation, and a best-practice approach to service delivery.
• Mentoring customer and stakeholder staff, identifying appropriate skill sets and training needs are developed.

Mandatory qualifications and conditions
• A current Class ‘C' Drivers Licence.
• Pre-employment checks, including a criminal history screening and declaration of serious discipline history will require to be completed.
• Must be eligible to work in Australia.

Desirable qualifications
• External stakeholder engagement and communications experience.
• Tertiary qualifications in communications or a similar discipline (IE engagement related) will be highly regarded.
• International Association for Public Participation (iap2) or equivalent training in community engagement.
