The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is dedicated to putting customers first in all its endeavours, delivering a $32 billion transport infrastructure program that connects Queensland communities. TMR’s Rail Division is transforming the South East Queensland rail network to meet future demands, preparing for Cross River Rail, constructing new and upgraded stations, expanding park-and-ride facilities, laying new tracks, and implementing advanced ticketing and signalling systems.
We are seeking an exceptional leader for the role of Deputy Director-General (Rail) to oversee the planning and delivery of TMR’s transformative rail portfolio. This critical role will shape Queensland’s rail future, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and aligned to Queensland Government priorities.

As Deputy Director-General (Rail), you will:
• Lead TMR's rail governance and planning to deliver socioeconomic, environmental, cultural, and sustainability outcomes.
• Oversee the rail infrastructure, rollingstock, and signalling pipeline, ensuring robust project governance and risk management.
• Drive complex multi-stakeholder negotiations and commercial arrangements with delivery partners, including Queensland Rail.
• Implement optimized procurement and contract management processes for professional services and construction.
• Foster a high-performing, customer-focused workforce that prioritizes teamwork, open communication, and strong morale.
• Proactively manage critical issues across the project lifecycle to ensure seamless delivery with minimal customer disruption.

• Technical expertise to inform critical decision-making in rail infrastructure delivery.

• Industry respect and credibility, backed by a strong track record in the rail sector.
• Commitment to public sector values, including high ethical standards and integrity beyond reproach.
• Exceptional leadership, with experience navigating complex change and fostering a confident, capable workforce.
• Superior communication and negotiation skills, with agility and adaptability in dynamic environments.
