As Principal Scientist Paddock Modelling & Monitoring, you will lead a team delivering the Paddock to Reef Integrated Monitoring, Modelling and Reporting Program's paddock modelling program. The paddock modelling program models the effect of different agricultural management practices on nutrient and sediment coming from the sugarcane, banana and grains farms. This then informs the end of system sediment and nutrient loads.
You will contribute to the provision of technical and scientific advice from this program in line with Departmental and client priorities.
In this role, you will:
• Provide specialist scientific leadership and advice to support the paddock modelling component of Paddock to Reef Science program and other departmental initiatives.
• Contribute to the strategic objectives of the department, by providing professional leadership on :
o the technical development of the of Paddock to Reef paddock modelling program;
o the development of and water quality management strategies and policies;
o the preparation of project plans and the management of projects; and
o the state-wide coordination of technical services and activities on land and water processes relevant to Reef Sciences and the department.
• Manage highly qualified and innovative work teams and individuals within the Reef Science and Water and Catchments program through strategic and operational planning including the effective and efficient utilisation of human resources, assets and finances.
• Lead workforce planning activities, performance appraisal, skills development and training programs and fulfil workplace safety and equal employment opportunity obligations.
• Provide comprehensive, high quality scientific and technical information and advice to management; other state, national and local government agencies; policy makers; industry; the community and other clients, on contemporary land and water management issues, legislation and associated policy.
• Collaborate on projects with the Australian and Queensland Governments, industry, collaborators, contractors and clients to ensure project objectives and outcomes are achieved and fit for purpose
• Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of First Nations people and actively engage through our work to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations people.
