The Specialist Pharmacist role provides specialised clinical pharmacy leadership, services and advice to the QAS through the Medical Director, to ensure the delivery of safe and contemporary pre-hospital care whilst adhering to all regulatory requirements for the administration of medicines.

We are seeking applicants who, within the context of the role responsibilities, possess the following key attributes:

• Demonstrated advanced level of knowledge, expertise and skill in clinical pharmacy practice, complex contemporary medication management and relevant practice standards.
• Demonstrated high level interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to consult, negotiate and maintain relationships with senior health professionals and other stakeholders; the ability to develop and deliver training sessions; and the ability to compile complex reports and documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to apply advanced level professional judgement in providing clinical advice and direction where established principles, procedures and methods require some expansion, adaptation or modification.
• Demonstrated ability to initiate, plan and evaluate quality improvement initiatives and provide clinical advice to professional and operational supervisors regarding service delivery and improvement opportunities.
• Demonstrated ability to provide professional development to staff through the facilitation and evaluation of high quality professional educational activities and support for practitioner development and supervision.

The following mandatory requirements, special conditions and/or other requirements apply to this role:

• Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Pharmacy Board of Australia). Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
• Whilst not mandatory, a postgraduate qualification in Clinical Pharmacy will be highly regarded.
• It is an express condition of employment for all people who are to perform roles with direct patient contact to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following infectious diseases during their employment: Diphtheria; Tetanus; Pertussis (Whooping Cough); Hepatitis B; Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR); Varicella (Chickenpox); Influenza. Please note, there may be additional vaccination requirements depending on individual circumstances as specified in the QAS Infection Control Framework.
