We are seeking a Senior Veterinarian (Surveillance) to join the Animal Biosecurity and Welfare team, where you will contribute to Queensland’s surveillance systems and animal biosecurity policy.
With your veterinary (including epidemiological) expertise you will manage disease surveillance projects for Queensland, including the collation of surveillance data to achieve national and state reporting requirements.
Your role is vital in ensuring Queensland effectively contributes to a strong national surveillance system that protects market access, improves livestock productivity and preserves public health.

Animal Biosecurity and Welfare (ABW) supports BQ's efforts to prevent, prepare, respond to, and recover from diseases threatening livestock industries and maintaining access to markets. Our people work together to help mitigate biosecurity risks, uphold standards for animal welfare and animal management and lead the overall DPI response to biosecurity emergency incidents to achieve outcomes consistent with the Department's strategic direction for leadership in animal welfare, exhibited animal, animal management and animal ethics policy and service delivery.
Are you passionate about animal health and biosecurity? As a Senior Veterinarian (Surveillance), you'll play a pivotal role in a small but dynamic, high-performing animal biosecurity policy team. Your expertise will drive the timely and efficient delivery of some of Queensland's key animal health surveillance projects, reinforcing our commitment to a robust national animal health system. You will manage and continuously monitor the collection and collation of scientific data and literature related to state and national animal disease surveillance programs and provide veterinary advice within a science-based policy context.
This includes:
o Utilising sound, scientifically valid judgement to analysis and interpret data.
o Preparing insightful recommendations based on your analysis to facilitate informed decision-making.
o Representing our department at relevant forums, conferences, meetings and on committees and working groups, supporting and advocating for our organisation's policy position when necessary.
It is a requirement for all Biosecurity Queensland positions to have a criminal history check completed.
