About the role
As our Extension Officer (Pasture Agronomy) you will:
• Work within the DPI northern pastures and beef extension teams to deliver a sown pastures research and adoption program in north Queensland, with a particular focus on adoption of legumes by beef producers.
• Develop, organise and execute sown pasture and grazing land management extension activities including the delivery of a wide range of community and stakeholder engagement events and extension materials in line with project deliverables.
• Build relationships and rapport with producers and industry stakeholders through a suite of extension methodologies including one-on-one support, workshops and extension.
• Respond and work with producers to identify and implement opportunities to improve the productivity and resilience of their feedbase, primarily by supporting the adoption of sown pastures in north Queensland, plus other aspects of feed-base management.
• Utilise established eExtension networks by contribution of written materials (case studies, newsletter articles, social media posts) in line with project deliverables.
• Communicate and report on project activities using internal data management systems and project reports for industry stakeholders.
• Participate in field-based research and development activities to support sown pasture systems research, including activities on Queensland Government research facilities and commercial beef properties.
• To improve beef industry adoption of pasture legumes in north Queensland, you will have a working knowledge of extension practices relevant to north Queensland beef businesses and an understanding of, or willingness to gain competency in, the establishment and management of sown pasture systems in north Queensland.

Mandatory qualifications
• It is a mandatory requirement for a professional officer to possess an Australian Bachelor degree (AQF level 7 or equivalent) or higher in Agricultural Science / Applied Science / Environmental Science from a recognised tertiary institution.
• A current manual “C” class drivers licence.
• For international qualifications, the applicant will need their qualification assessed, to determine comparability with the Australian Qualifications Framework. The Department of Employment, Small Business and Training can assist with these assessments for Queensland residents.
• Applicants need to hold either Australian Citizenship or have permission under Commonwealth law to work in Australia and reside in Australia indefinitely.
