The Policy Conduct and Performance team has key role in ongoing implementation and embedding of the Public Sector Act 2022 to ensure a fairer and more integrated public sector, and to driving a culture of accountability and performance through good governance and leadership.
As part of this team, the Principal Policy Officer role will contribute to a high performing, future-focused public sector for Queensland. In this role, you will play a key role in providing strategic advice on, and supporting the development of, policy and legislative instruments for the Queensland public sector workforce.
You may also contribute to the PSC’s comprehensive review of Public Sector Ethics Act 1994

The Policy Conduct and Performance team has key role in ongoing implementation and embedding of the Public Sector Act 2022 to ensure a fairer and more integrated public sector, and to driving a culture of accountability and performance through good governance and leadership.
As part of this team, the Principal Policy Officer role will contribute to a high performing, future-focused public sector for Queensland. In this role, you will play a key role in providing strategic advice on, and supporting the development of, policy and legislative instruments for the Queensland public sector workforce.
You may also contribute to the PSC's comprehensive review of the Public Sector Ethics Act 1994 and Code of Conduct for the Queensland public service. The purpose of this review is to ensure the framework remains fit for purpose, contemporary and accessible for a modern public sector.
As Principal Policy Officer you will use your experience to:
· Contribute to strategic policy and legislation projects, individually and as part of teams. This includes liaising with subject matter experts, preparing Cabinet submissions, briefings, drafting instructions, explanatory materials, instructing Parliamentary Counsel, and developing written materials to support Parliamentary processes and Governor-in-Council consideration (for subordinate legislation).
· Review and develop PSC directives, policies and guidelines, to contribute to improved practice in the areas of workforce management and employee relations.
· Provide strategic policy advice to management and executive government, including on issues relating to the management and governance of the Queensland public sector and other statutory functions of the PSC.
· Prepare high quality and timely briefing notes, reports, submissions and correspondence with a high degree of research and technical expertise.
· Analyse and interpret information from a range of sources to identify trends and opportunities and develop and implement practical solutions in the management of performance and conduct and other HR priorities.
· Use strong communication skills to build, maintain and support internal and external relationships to ensure policy is developed collaboratively, and stakeholders are informed of key issues.
· Develop collaborative relationships with external stakeholders including State Government departments and agencies.
· Represent the PSC and actively participate in inter-departmental and inter governmental working groups, consultative forums and meetings as required.
