Senior Project Officer – World Heritage Team
Join the Office of the Great Barrier Reef and World Heritage within DETSI to help protect Queensland’s World Heritage Areas, including the Great Barrier Reef.
As a Senior Project Officer, you’ll support the development of policies and programs that conserve and transmit the values of these iconic sites for future generations. Collaborate with First Nations partners to ensure cultural rights are reflected in plans and foster partnerships for sustainable management.
You’ll contribute to strategic planning, policy development, and governance while building relationships with stakeholders. Strong project management, research and communication skills are essential. Flexible location with occasional travel required.

The Senior Project Officer role within the World Heritage team, is responsible for supporting the development of World Heritage policy and programs that identify, protect, conserve, present and transmit to future generations, the values of the World Heritage Areas (WHAs) managed by the Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation (DETSI).
The Office of the Great Barrier Reef and World Heritage within DETSI is a whole of government business unit that is responsible for coordinating and delivering policies and programs for preserving the outstanding values of most of Queensland's World Heritage Areas including the Great Barrier Reef. As the Senior Project Officer you will provide program support to the World Heritage Unit and assist with strategy development, implementation of policies, programs, reporting and governance obligations.
You will specifically be working on programs that focus on the K'gari, Gondwana Rainforest (Queensland Section) and Riverleigh World Heritage Areas.
