About Legal Aid Queensland

Legal Aid Queensland's vision is to be a leader in a fair justice system where people are able to understand and protect their legal rights. Our purpose is to provide quality, cost effective legal services to financially disadvantaged people throughout Queensland.

We embrace diversity, flexibility, learning and continuous improvement to deliver quality legal services. The work is challenging but rewarding - and that is why staff wellbeing and work/life balance are a top priority for us.

About the role

As a Business Support Officer, you will work closely with the Directors, Principal Development & Practice Management Officer, and legal practice teams to deliver high-level legal administrative services. Whether it's crafting duty lawyer rosters, coaching team members, or improving operational practices, your contributions will ensure the seamless function of our family law teams.

Some key responsibilities of this role are:

  • Cultivate a collaborative and supportive culture within family law administrative teams.
  • Oversee and allocate workflows using tools like BigHand and VisualFiles, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently.
  • Prepare duty lawyer and advice rosters for review while managing ongoing changes.
  • Act as the first point of contact for courts regarding duty lawyer services, coordinating conflict checks and client assistance.
  • Support and train team members, offering structured and on-the-job guidance.
  • Work with the Principal Practice Management Officer to enhance practices and update the litigation support manual.
  • Liaise with justice system stakeholders, government agencies, and other partners to enhance services.
  • Assist with litigation support activities, secretariat duties, and general administration tasks.

About you

We are looking for candidates with legal administrative expertise, particularly in family law, domestic violence, and child protection, who can work independently, adapt to changing priorities, and maintain exceptional attention to detail under tight deadlines. You should have strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, a commitment to continuous improvement, and the ability to provide clear, effective communication while engaging with stakeholders and clients who may have complex needs. Additionally, an understanding of trauma-informed practice principles and a commitment to fostering workplace diversity and wellbeing are essential attributes for success in this role.

As a member of the Legal Aid Queensland Community, you will receive:

  • A 36.25 hour working week (full time hours)
  • Generous salary packaging
  • Employer super contributions of 12.75%
  • Flexible working hours
  • Study leave for approved work-related courses.
