The Health and Safety Advisor is responsible for the provision of internal advisory and support services to facilitate the implementation, coordination and monitoring of health, safety and workplace rehabilitation programs, capability building and risk management.

This is a new position for this role in QAS Northern Region with the possibility of extension. The successful applicant will function as a Rehabilitation and Return to Work coordinator for Northern Region and possess a strong background in case management skills, knowledge and support processes for injured workers.

Facilitate the implementation of specific health and safety initiatives and activities within the region, through the provision of accurate and timely technical advice, in accordance with the QAS WHS management system, including but not limited to:

• Hazard and risk management, applicable to QAS operations.
• Periodic WHS inspections.
• Implementation and monitoring of risk controls.
• Investigations of workplace health and safety incidents.
• Worker consultation and WHS dispute resolution.
• WHS information, instruction and training.

Function as the Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator for the region, including but not limited to:

• Working with managers and supervisors to ensure injured workers are contacted and provided with appropriate support in the earliest timeframe possible post injury.
• Providing guidance to injured workers and regional management in relation to Workcover processes.
• Liaising with medical practitioners to determine an injured worker's capability for duty and develop supportive return to work plans to return an injured worker to work in an appropriate timeframe.
• Providing case management services for injured workers who are unable to continue their substantive position.
• Providing advice and guidance to regional management on employee health policies and procedures, particularly those relating to fitness for duty, workplace rehabilitation and medical retirement.
