The role of Principal Advisor, Strategic Projects and Oversight Liaison is responsible for supporting the coordination of responses and provision of strategic advice to internal and external oversight functions and inquiries and building effective partnerships across the oversight and advocacy sector that supports transparent and accountable youth detention service delivery. The team collates information in response to formal requests, responding to findings, recommendations and reports and maintains strong governance to support the efficient and effective tracking of recommendations.

The role is also responsible for supporting internal governance and project committees, including the development and progression of key of system reform activities.

Key responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and implement a fit for purpose and robust project governance framework and associated strategies, policies, and guidelines which ensure a consistent approach to the implementation of major projects and oversight recommendations.
  • Provide expert advice and support in response to requests from oversight and advocacy functions, reviews, reports and recommendations, ensuring compliance with relevant statutory timeframes.
  • Provide expert support and advice to internal and external stakeholders in relation to youth detention service delivery, including working with relevant internal business areas to identify practice issues and develop strategic and operational solutions requiring a departmental response.
  • Provide quality secretariat support to the directorate and relevant youth detention governance committees in support of major projects and initiatives.
  • Lead, coordinate, plan, implement and monitor progress of projects within tight timeframes to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Coordinate and support the development of the various reports, oversight responses, submissions and executive correspondence.
  • Coordinate and/or conduct research into youth detention service delivery or other practices relating to young people at risk of reoffending, including the analysis of findings, recommendations and appropriate courses of action.
  • Establish and maintain strategic and effective working relationships within the department and across government agencies and other external stakeholders.
  • Work within a team environment, and if necessary, as a team leader, to coordinate the activities of team members and contribute to an accountable and equitable work environment as delegated by the Manager.
