Lead a team of approx. 20 rangers in one of Australia's most spectacular regions—from Mission Beach to the Torres Strait. In this dynamic role, you'll help protect and manage iconic marine and national parks within the Northern Great Barrier Reef. Great Barrier Reef and Marine Parks (GBR&MP) Region are excited to share an incredible opportunity for a Senior Ranger to join the team on a temporary basis.
As one of the six regions of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, the GBR&MP Region delivers conservation and management activities across land and sea including implementing the Reef Joint Field Management Program in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. Additionally, the Region oversees the state's southern marine parks - Great Sandy Marine Park and Moreton Bay Marine Park.
Role focus:
• Lead a geographically dispersed team, set priorities, allocate resources and oversee the delivery of local strategies, emergency response, and compliance operations.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with Traditional Owners, landholders, government agencies, industry, and community groups.
• Provide advice and education to promote conservation and sustainable use of national parks, forests, and marine parks.
• Manage recovery efforts, infrastructure projects, and annual work programs including fire, wildlife, and pest management, while contributing to broader agency planning and reporting.
To be considered you must hold the following qualifications:
• an unrestricted manual driver's licence
There are no mandatory qualifications required to undertake this position, however possession of an authorisation as an Inspector under the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act 1975, an Inspector under the Marine Parks Act 2004 and a Conservation Officer under the Nature Conservation Act 1992 is highly desirable.
