This role will work closely with the Manager and be responsible for supporting the design and development of projects and initiatives that are effective, efficient, evidenced-based, and enhance quality outcomes for young people and victims.

The Principal Program Officer will support the Manager to ensure projects and initiatives are developed and delivered in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, within required timeframes and of a high standard. The Principal Program Officer will engage with internal and external stakeholders and deliver processes and outputs that meet Youth Justice projects and initiatives aims and expected outcomes.

As a Principal Program Officer, you will:

  • Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Develop, manage, and implement projects and initiatives that support the effective delivery of services, congruent with current strategic and operational plans. 
  • Provide high level advice and reporting in relation to project and initiative design, delivery status and outcomes.
  • Gather information from a wide range of sources and provide strategic analysis and advice on complex operational program, policy and legislative issues which may impact the successful delivery of programs and initiatives.
  • Coordinate and manage day-to-day operations and issues to ensure on-time, high quality delivery of project and initiatives deliverables and outcomes.
  • Engage in high level consultation, liaison, and negotiation with internal and external stakeholders to inform the development and implementation of projects and initiatives delivered by the business unit.
  • Ensure projects and initiatives support the department's service delivery and strategic intent, including relevant outcomes for First Nations peoples.
  • Prepare a range of written materials including cabinet submissions, executive correspondence, briefing material, short reports, PowerPoint presentations, literature reviews, speech notes and information papers relating to projects and initiatives delivered by the business unit.
  • Work within a team environment and contribute to the promotion of an accountable, supportive, and equitable work environment.
  • Maintain positive connections with central, corporate, regional and detention centre staff to enable quality review and service delivery improvement planning.
