About the Role
As Ranger in Charge, you won't just manage protected areas—you'll inspire and guide a team in delivering conservation, land management and visitor services across 21 estates, including National Parks, State Forests, Conservation Parks and Forest Reserves.
You'll lead the strategic delivery of fire, pest, estate and asset management programs, balancing frontline operations with long-term planning. Whether coordinating a hazard reduction burn, overseeing infrastructure upgrades, or guiding restoration works, this role combines leadership, fieldwork and community engagement.
What You'll Do
• Lead and support a team of 8 Rangers delivering core conservation outcomes
• Develop and deliver fire, pest and estate management programs
• Oversee the Lake Eacham nursery and lead vegetation restoration projects
• Work with TREAT (Trees for Evelyn and Atherton Tablelands) volunteers on propagation and planting
• Collaborate with Traditional Owners, local groups, and stakeholders
• Manage budgets, reporting, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation
• Represent QPWS&P in public and regulatory engagements
• Operate and maintain plant and equipment safely and effectively
• Support projects across the broader Northern Region as required

• Has proven experience in protected area management (fire, pest, estate, and visitor programs)
• Brings strong leadership, supervision, and team-building skills
• Can manage complex work programs and multiple budgets effectively
• Has skills in nursery operations, vegetation restoration, and ecological data collection
• Communicates clearly and engages well with Traditional Owners, communities, and volunteers
• Is physically fit and confident in remote, challenging field conditions
• Models inclusive, respectful, and safety-first leadership in every aspect of the role
