Be the Power Behind the Parks – Administrative Officer (Northern Region Support)
Location: Cairns, Northern Region, Queensland
Department of Environment, Science and Innovation (DETSI)
Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service and Partnerships (QPWS&P)

Do you thrive on keeping things running smoothly? Are you an organised, motivated problem-solver looking to make a difference from behind the scenes? This is your
opportunity to contribute to real conservation outcomes—without leaving your desk.

As part of our Northern Region Support Team, you'll play a vital role in delivering administrative excellence for those working on the ground to protect Queensland's
most iconic natural areas.

About the Region
The Northern Region spans some of Queensland's most breathtaking and ecologically rich landscapes. It includes three diverse management areas:
• Cape York
• Tablelands and Dry Tropics
• Northern Gulf and Coastal Tropics
From tropical rainforests and rugged savannas to coastal ecosystems, this region is a powerhouse of biodiversity and cultural heritage. Supporting this field-based workforce requires sharp minds, strong systems, and seamless coordination—exactly what you'll help deliver.

About the Role
As an Administrative Officer, you'll provide crucial support to the regional team that regulates resource sector activity on QPWS&P-managed lands. Your work will keep systems running, people informed, and projects on track.

This is a diverse, dynamic role that includes:
• Delivering day-to-day administrative, financial and human resource support
• Managing internal databases and information systems
• Assisting with the planning and coordination of meetings, events and regional workshops
• Responding to routine enquiries from proponents, rangers and senior staff
• Supporting Travel Claim Allowance processing and documentation

Your work ensures that frontline staff can focus on what they do best—conserving Queensland's parks, forests and wildlife.

What We're Looking For
We're after someone who brings energy, initiative, and a love of ticking off a to-do list. You don't need to be an expert in everything—just keen to learn and grow.

You'll thrive in this role if you:
• Are highly motivated, curious, and ready for new challenges
• Have excellent attention to detail and take pride in your work
• Are confident managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Communicate clearly and work well in a collaborative team
• Feel comfortable navigating systems and learning new platforms
Experience with the following systems is an advantage but not essential—we'll support the right candidate to build these skills:
• Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Excel, Teams, Word, SharePoint)
• MECS, SAP, Aurion, and Travel Claim Allowance systems
• Departmental recordkeeping and correspondence tools

Why You'll Love This Role
• Make a real impact – Your support directly empowers those protecting Queensland's environment
• Enjoy variety – No two days are the same; problem-solve, plan and organise with purpose
• Grow your skills – Gain valuable experience across administration, finance, HR and government systems
• Be part of something bigger – Work with passionate people who care deeply about nature and community

Whether you're early in your journey or looking for a fresh challenge, this is your chance to join a supportive team that values precision, contribution and purpose.

Ready to Apply?
If you're a team player with a sharp eye for detail, a head for systems, and a heart for conservation—we want to hear from you.
Apply now to help power Queensland's park protection efforts from the inside out.

Applications to remain current for 12 months.
