Animal Biosecurity and Welfare (ABW) supports BQ's efforts to prevent, prepare, respond to and recover from diseases threatening livestock industries and maintaining access to markets. Our people work together to help mitigate biosecurity risks, uphold standards for animal welfare and animal management and lead the overall DPI response to biosecurity emergency incidents to achieve outcomes consistent with the Department's strategic direction for leadership in animal welfare, exhibited animal, animal management and animal ethics policy and service delivery.
As a Scientist in the Molecular Diagnostics section, you will ensure timely, highquality diagnostic outcomes by overseeing laboratory operations, supervising technical staff, and maintaining compliance with national standards. You'll manage equipment servicing and laboratory consumable procurement, and provide expert advice and technical guidance to stakeholders. The role also involves contributing to scientific development through audits, publications, and professional presentations.
This includes:
• Applying advanced molecular biology techniques to independently perform and troubleshoot diagnostic procedures ensuring timely and accurate results.
• Contributing to the development, validation and implementation of new and improved diagnostic methods.
• Fostering collaboration and innovation by working closely with multidisciplinary teams to resolve technical challenges, develop innovative scientific solutions and contribute expertise across laboratory sections.
