The primary accountabilities of the Cultural Program Officer include:
• Participate in planning activities to ensure First Nations/Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander offenders have timely access to appropriate programs and interventions
• Administer appropriate assessments specific to First Nations programs and prepare offenders for participation in offender intervention programs
• Ensure offender program activities are consistent with evidence-based practice
• Deliver offender intervention programs and increase the cultural safety of interventions provided to First Nations offenders
• Monitor progress of First Nations offenders during programs and conduct related activities, including reporting on progress
• Comply with program management procedures, standards and guidelines
• Identify in consultation with Program Delivery Officer, risks arising from offender assessment and management
• Maintain own level of knowledge of contemporary offender programs research and practices, and legislation, policy and procedures in relation to offender management
• Participate in case management activities as required for First Nations offenders assessed as requiring program participation
• Provide timely information to relevant business unit in relation to each offender's participation in programs for case management
• Monitor offender management files and programs to ensure continuity and consistency, ensuring records and information data for the Integrated Offender Management system (IOMS) and the Offender Programs Assessment Service (OPAS) are accurate and current
• Ensure maintenance, accuracy and appropriateness of records and intervention reports for appropriate authorities
• Maintain program data, analyse assessment results and record information
• Provide advice to relevant officers regarding First Nations offender program suitability and/or other intervention activities
• Provide coaching and cultural development to staff to assist them to effectively conduct their duties and identify opportunities for supporting colleagues in the effective cultural delivery of First Nations interventions
• Ensure the timely provision of program impact reports and advice to courts, parole boards and other agencies regarding First Nations offenders
• Promote value of First Nations offender programs through effective collaboration with internal and external professional networks, Elder Groups and Community Justice Groups
• Develop productive relationships with service providers and the First Nations community networks to enhance the community's regard for First Nations offender programs
• Ensure the safety and security of self and others and the security and confidentiality of QCS property and information
