Seeking an experience agile and responsive lawyer to provide strategic legal advice on a range of complex, interesting and high-profile projects. You may be involved in structuring significant investment attraction and economic development opportunities, supporting the department's industry development programs, grants and funding programs and providing legal advice to statutory decision makers.
Be part of a legal team who operate as an independent professional legal practice within the department and is comprised of the General Counsel, Directors, lawyers and support staff. We pride ourselves on excellent customer service and work collaboratively with our internal stakeholders to achieve the department's strategic objectives.
Your responsibilities include:
• Providing timely, high quality legal advice to the portfolio Minister, Director-General, Coordinator-General, Senior Executives and other officers in the Department on:
o The structuring and delivery of infrastructure, major projects and other economic development.
o The drafting and negotiation of term sheets and bespoke funding agreements.
o Investment attraction and competitive bid processes.
o Other legal issues affecting the department which could include commercial, contract, construction, property and administrative law.
o Compulsory acquisition processes.
o The State Development and Public Works Organisation Act 1971.
• Drafting and reviewing commercial agreements which could include leases, licences, easements, development agreements and funding agreements.
• Mentoring junior lawyers.
• Engaging and managing external legal providers, including Crown Law.
• Maintaining effective relationships with a range of clients and stakeholders.
• Assisting General Counsel and the Directors to identify and make recommendations to senior management on trends, risks and emerging legal issues affecting the Department.
The successful applicant must be admitted, or qualify for admission, as a Solicitor or Barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland, with demonstrated relevant experience. A minimum of 6 years post admission experience in relevant practice areas is preferred.
