Queensland has the largest network of private protected areas in Australia by land area, with almost 5 million hectares of private land protected.

This is your opportunity to lead the state’s Private Protected Areas Program, managing teams who are recruiting new landholders to the program and providing support to landholders in the program.

The role is within the Protected Area Strategy and Investment Branch, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services and Partnerships (QPWS&P) Division, Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation.

If you have strong program management skills and experience delivering complex programs of work, this could be the job for you. We're especially looking for a people leader who knows how to bring out the best in their diverse teams.

You'll also need a mind for continuous improvement and be experienced in supporting senior leaders to make informed, strategic decisions. Negotiation and contract management skills will also be critical, as you'll work with a wide array of private sector and other partners to deliver the Queensland Government's commitment to expand protected areas and support landholders to be the environmental stewards of their land.

This is a unique opportunity to lead QPWS&Ps Private Protected Areas Program, which includes nature refuges and special wildlife reserves. The role will provide strategic program direction and drive the ongoing management and expansion of the private protected area system in Queensland.

The role will work closely with stakeholders to assist with implementation of the Queensland Government's program for private protected areas.
