Queensland State Archives (QSA) connects Queenslanders with their past, the histories of their families, the local community and the state by providing access to Queensland’s most significant historical records.
As the Principal Collections Advisor, you will lead and implement key activities and projects relating to collection management, and provide subject matter guidance and advice to QSA and a wide range of external stakeholders around the management of and access to records (including metadata) to ensure regulatory requirements and community expectations are met.

As the Principal Collections Advisor, you will be responsible for providing expert guidance in complex archival collection management related matters. You will provide advice on contemporary and emerging issues associated with the management of archival records in all formats and foster strong relationships across Queensland State Archives (QSA). You will work collaboratively in a dynamic team engaging with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
In this role you will:
• Provide expert subject matter guidance and advice to QSA around the management of and access to records (including metadata) to ensure regulatory requirements and community expectations are met.
• Provide advice to Queensland Government public authorities on collection management matters.
• Lead, implement and contribute to key activities and projects relating to collection management, including delegation management and other legislative requirements under the Public Records Act 2023.
• Research, analyse and prepare written reports, discussion papers, briefing notes and correspondence on various topics including contemporary and emerging issues associated with collection management.
• Maintain oversight of the QSA archival collection data model and monitor compliance of the archival management system, proposed enhancements, and associated activities in line with archival standards and best practice.
• Build and maintain close relationships and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including representing QSA on working groups and delivering presentations.
• Model the behaviours expected of a leader at QSA including fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation, promoting an environment of strong customer service, collaboration and teamwork.
• Undertake any other duties as directed by the Manager, Collections & Discovery.
