The Director SO Water Planning position (O.4 FTE) within North Region, Department Local Government, Water and Volunteers will lead the Unlocking Water Team and deliver on key departmental priorities.
You will lead and manage a multi-disciplinary team to deliver the Water Availability and Security in Queensland’s Water Plans project and undertake an analysis of all 23 regional water plans to identify:
- Water availability for economic development, a strategic approach to un-allocated water releases and water markets.
- Review opportunities to increase consumptive water in the un-supplemented pool through modelling and science.
- Review of current underutilisation, why it occurs and options to address.
- Identify trading opportunities to activate water already in the market.
- Develop education materials on the availability of specific UAW products and how to access.

Mackay, Rockhampton, Longreach, Townsville, Ayr, South Johnstone, Cairns or Mareeba. Flexible location at DLGWV offices will be considered.

Key Duties and Accountabilities:
• Lead and manage a multi-disciplinary and geographically dispersed workforce comprised of 5 staff to deliver on the Water Availability and Security in Queensland's Water Plans project.
• To deliver on the Queensland Government's election commitment to undertake an analysis of 23 regional water plans to contribute to the development of a water security plan for the State.
• Undertake technical assessments (environmental, economic, social, hydrologic and cultural data), as well as extensive stakeholder engagement to understand and plan for further water needs.
• Engage with the Commonwealth on accredited water resource plans and other Commonwealth related matters.
• Represent the department at both key state and national water initiates and forums.
• Delivery of science related programs to support water planning and intergovernmental agreements.
• Lead engagement with First Nations people to understand and deliver indigenous water reserves.
• Other duties as directed and required.
