The Opportunity
Elias Recruitment, on behalf of Crown Law, is seeking a talented Senior Principal Lawyer to join the Native Title Claims and Agreements Team. This role sits within the Crown Law's legal leadership, handling the most complex legal work, mentoring others, and shaping strategic direction for native title across Queensland Government agencies.
If you're an experienced legal leader with deep knowledge of native title, Aboriginal land rights or complex public law and you're looking to step into a key legal leadership position within the Queensland Government, this may be your opportunity.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead complex native title legal matters, including litigation, compensation claims, Future Act processes and ILUAs.
- Provide high-level legal and strategic advice across the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth), Aboriginal Land Act 1991, and Nature Conservation Act 1992.
- Act as a trusted advisor to internal legal teams and the Queensland Government and deputise for the Assistant Crown Solicitor when required.
- Mentor and guide lawyers across the team, fostering legal excellence and building legal capability.
- Support team operations including legal leadership, resource allocation, client service, performance management, and knowledge sharing.
- Actively contribute to Crown Law's strategic initiatives, business planning, and reinvestment activities .
About You
You will be a strategic thinker and seasoned practitioner with:
- Admission as a Legal Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Queensland or eligible to be admitted.
- Significant experience in native title, Aboriginal land rights, or high-level government legal practice.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex litigation and negotiate high-stakes agreements.
- A proven leadership track record, with experience mentoring, developing teams and leading teams.
