The Opportunity
On behalf of Crown Law, we are recruiting an experienced Principal Lawyer to join the Native Title Claims and Agreements Team. This is a rare chance to take on impactful, challenging and intellectually stimulating legal work within a values-led government legal practice.
You'll work on a diverse portfolio of matters including litigation, negotiation, ILUAs, compensation claims, and statutory interpretation, advising and representing Queensland Government departments in native title and Aboriginal land matters.
What You'll Do
- Lead complex native title legal files, including litigation and mediation before the Federal Court.
- Draft, review and advise on Indigenous Land Use Agreements and other land related frameworks.
- Interpret key legislation such as the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth), Aboriginal Land Act 1991, and Nature Conservation Act 1992.
- Mentor junior lawyers and contribute to legal capability across the broader team.
- Build strong internal and client relationships across Queensland Government.
About You
- Admitted as a Legal Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Queensland or eligible to be admitted.
- Significant experience in native title law, Aboriginal land rights, public law or complex government litigation OR complementary experience in property law or adjacent law experience.
- Skilled in litigation strategy, statutory interpretation and agreement negotiation.
- A collaborative team player who can also work independently and lead matters from end to end.
