• Experience in financial reporting in the public sector, ensuring compliance in accordance with the relevant Australian Accounting Standards, statutory obligations, and Queensland Government financial reporting requirements.
• Well-developed knowledge and practical skills in computer-based systems relating to financial and management reporting such as the SAP ERP system, Microsoft Office suite of programs and data analytics tools.

Some of your responsibilities will include:
• Undertake various tasks related to the production of financial reports and consolidated financial statements and address financial reporting issues to ensure departmental compliance with relevant legislation, government policies, Australian Accounting Standards and other pronouncements.
• Monitor and undertake reviews of the effectiveness of various financial reporting internal controls. For example, general ledger reconciliations and other data integrity checks and initiate investigative and follow up action as required.
• Develop and review policies, practices and procedures to identify business improvement opportunities and internal control improvements, ensure appropriate reengineering of work practices and exploitation of modern technology.
• Maintain personal expertise in financial reporting prescribed legislation, accounting standards and government policies.
• Provide expertise and advice to departmental officers in relation to the application of accounting policies impacting on financial reporting and the design and implementation of information systems with emphasis on financial accounting processes in support of the departmental financial management framework.
• The ability to build and maintaining effective, co-operative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including Regions, Divisions and Business units and external agencies.
• Although not mandatory, possession of a degree or equivalent in the areas of accounting, commerce or business administration is highly desirable as is membership of a professional accounting body.
