About us
Program Delivery & Operations (PDO) is responsible for planning and delivering value-for-money transport infrastructure programs and projects; ensuring the safe management of TMR assets; and operating the state's road network. PDO is a branch of the Infrastructure Management and Delivery Division (IMD) which delivers, maintains, manages and operates transport infrastructure across Queensland.
Key responsibilities
The purpose of the Principal Engineer is to manage the operational aspects of road infrastructure project delivery and to provide leadership and technical expertise to project managers on design, construction and maintenance projects and the operation of road networks.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
• Manage the operational aspects of construction project delivery to ensure the effective and efficient use of systems and processes involved with all phases of project management.
• Provide expertise in evaluating engineering and design options, material usage, resource allocation, and construction practices, advising on their suitability within projects. Ensure project success through optimal resource utilisation, adherence to best practices and value for money.
• Maintain and apply all relevant standards, policies, guidelines, and legislative requirements necessary to support responsible decisions and actions for the design and construction of road infrastructure projects.
• Manage and co-ordinate contract performance and construction practices by ensuring that efficient procedures are implemented, and best practice is achieved.
• Supervise and coordinate resource allocation, encourage effective teamwork, collaboration, and inclusion, and foster a positive attitude toward the achievement of organisational objectives.
• Maintain networks and alliances with stakeholders, manage expectations and issues, and identify possible political and high risk matters to ensure they are dealt with in a timely and professional manner.
• Contribute to the training and development needs of the team, ensuring they have the necessary skills and experience to ensure effective unit operation.
Mandatory qualifications and conditions
• A four-year, Washington Accord accredited, Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or equivalence which is assessed/accepted by Engineers Australia against Washington Accord benchmarks. If your qualification is from an overseas institution, the Australian assessment of qualification equivalence must also be provided.
• Registration as a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) is mandatory for appointment to the position. Applications will also be considered if evidence is provided that an assessment for RPEQ has commenced.
• Current Class C driver's license.
• Criminal history screening will be conducted for the recommended person for this role.
