About the role

The Team Leader, Victim Services supports the Victim Services Coordinator in the delivery of their functions under the Victims of Crime Assistance Act, 2009. They lead a multidisciplinary team in the delivery of high quality, timely victim focused services and support to service providers working closely with victims of crime.

The Team Leader provides advice on policy issues and programs relating to the delivery of services to victims of crime in Queensland and coordinates, develops, and reviews services to support victims of crime. The Team Leader, Victim Services is also acts as the regional practice lead, supporting regionally based staff through training, development, mentoring and providing well-being support.

Key responsibilities

• Leads a multi-disciplinary team to achieve desired operational outcomes, using sound judgment and initiating and directing remedial action as required.
• Provide authoritative analysis and advice on complex operational process and policy issues relating to regional and remote service delivery in accordance with the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 2009.
• Provide leadership and coordination to assist in identifying and responding to gaps in services and coordination between government and non-government agencies, including a focus on the delivery of services state-wide to Aboriginal and Torres Straits Islanders victims.
• Build and maintain relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including other departmental business units and the non-government sector, to create opportunities and improvements ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of Victim Assist services.
• Lead and motivates an organisational culture that values a trauma-informed approach, internal and inter-agency collaboration, innovative performance and positive contributions that staff bring to Victim Assist and clients.
• Develop and implement a framework to support regional staff, driving initiatives that prioritise staff wellbeing, foster effective communication and strengthen connection across the regions.
• Financial, Human Resource and Performance management activities including establishment management, workforce and succession planning, coaching, mentoring and staff supervision.

• Demonstrate detailed knowledge of the victim services sector, including knowledge of non-government organisations funded by Victim Assist Queensland to provide support to victims of crime in Queensland.
• Make appropriate decisions based on legislation, policies, and procedures.
• Complete workload within established timeframes and adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate.
• Establishe and maintain co-operative working relationships with government and non-government entities.
• Manage a team providing sound guidance, coaching, and mentoring with the ability to quickly establish rapport and trust.
• Demonstrate respect for others, taking the time to connect, check in and show an interest in their wellbeing.
• Speak effectively with persons of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
• Support and promotes the interests of First Nations people and actively engage for better outcomes for First Nations people.
• Contribute to workplace equity, diversity, respect, and inclusion that enriches our culture of respect and inclusion.
