The Right to Information and Privacy Group:
• Manages privacy breaches and complaints under the Information Privacy Act 2009 (IP Act).
• Manages responses to applications made under the Right to Information Act 2009 (RTI Act) and IP Act.
• Processes subpoenas received by QCS, documents for insurance related matters, escalation of high-risk information requests, and monitors current and emerging relevant legislation and legal precedents to ensure processes are current.
The purpose of the Policy and Legal Command, Workforce Capability, Integrity and Culture is to establish and provide effective organisation-wide legal strategies, framework, services and advice, reflective of wider QCS operational policy development, service requirements and strategic direction.

The Senior Privacy Officer provides policy, strategic and operational advice in respect of the management, development and implementation of the Government's strategic priorities on information privacy. The position is also responsible for assisting the Command's leadership with the development of QCS's privacy program of work and managing various initiatives associated with maintaining a proactive privacy culture. Privacy complaints received by Right to Information and Privacy, along with privacy breaches are investigated and managed by the Senior Privacy Officer. The role also provides privacy advice to QCS business units and the Commissioner. This role requires integrity, discretion and tact in dealing with the sensitive and confidential nature of information within Right to Information and Privacy.
The primary accountabilities of the Senior Privacy Officer include:
• Provide advice to staff and management in relation to compliance with the IP Act.
• Investigate and manage information privacy complaints and breaches received by QCS.
• Manage mediations with the Office of the Information Commissioner and effectively implement their recommendations.
• Prepare and manage appeals to the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal in consultation with QCS Lawyers and,
• when appropriate, brief Legal Counsel.
• Deliver and assist with the development of information privacy training.
• Audit QCS's compliance with the requirements of the IP Act.
• Assist with the development, analysis and provision of advice on standards, guidelines, policies, procedures, submissions,
• contracts, reports and proposals relevant to information privacy management within QCS.
• Prepare written material to the Commissioner, Senior QCS leadership, the Minister and others on complex issues related to privacy.
• Exercise decision making power under the RTI Act and the IP Act and in accordance with administrative release guidelines, to
• make decisions on the release and amendment of documents of QCS.
• Liaise with relevant statutory bodies, departments and other agencies on privacy related issues.
