We're looking for an experienced and passionate professional to join our Equipment Safety team in a critical role that directly impacts the safety of individuals, families, workplaces and communities across Queensland.
As a Senior Inspector (Equipment Safety) within the Electrical Safety Office (ESO), you’ll play a key role in protecting Queenslanders by ensuring electrical equipment is safe at every stage — from design and manufacturing to installation, usage and disposal.

What You'll Be Doing:
• Conduct audits of recognised electrical certification schemes and assess compliance against Australian and international safety standards.
• Contribute to investigations of unsafe or non-compliant electrical equipment — from defective appliances to equipment linked to electrical fires.
• Provide expert technical advice to industry stakeholders including manufacturers, suppliers, importers and the broader community.
• Drive improvements in equipment safety through education, development of materials, presentations and engagement at industry forums.
• Support the development of legislation, standards and strategies in line with emerging technologies like renewables and smart systems.
• Lead or support compliance and enforcement activities, including cathodic protection system assessments and court proceedings where required.

About You:
You're a strategic thinker with a technical mindset and a passion for public safety. You thrive in a collaborative environment and can balance multiple initiatives while influencing positive change. Ideally, you have:
• Knowledge of electrical safety principles and standards, particularly in assessing compliance of electrical equipment.
• Experience auditing test reports and working within the supply chain or regulatory frameworks.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate complex technical content into clear, actionable advice.
• A professional, proactive and inclusive approach that aligns with the values of equity, integrity, safety and respect.
Highly desirable: Ongoing or completed study in electrical engineering or a related field (e.g., renewables, electrical equipment/technology ).
