About us
With branches in Rockhampton, Mackay and Barcaldine and a site office in Emerald, the Transport and Main Roads Program Delivery and Operations (PDO) Central Queensland Region (CQ Region) looks after 9076km of state-controlled roads and about 1510km of the National Road Network. This role will contribute to the development and delivery of the Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program (QTRIP).
The CQ Region covers an area of about 604,824km2, approximately 34.9% of Queensland. Its landscape ranges from beautiful coastal areas adjoining the Great Barrier Reef and rainforests to the rugged outback with breathtaking rock formations. The region has an estimated residential population of 422,141 people.

The Role
In the role of Senior Spatial Science Officer, you will develop and manage the delivery of GIS, spatial services, products and advice, to and for the Mackay Whitsunday District.
• Develop and manage the delivery of the District's spatial program and services, ensure maintenance of the spatial information memory and provide expert professional, technical and administrative service and advice to meet departmental requirements.
• Manage the delivery of geospatial projects for departmental clients and undertake the development of GIS applications to provide innovative solutions to complex problems. Assemble, analyse, interpret, and report on spatial data from appropriate sources and systems, providing customers and clients information through compiled datasets, high quality mapping products, reports or as required.
• Provide expert advice in the application of spatial technologies and GIS solutions to professional and technical staff, both internal and external to the department, demonstrating their application and value with respect to TMR's interests and related to managing transport infrastructure.
• Apply comprehensive knowledge in GIS in developing departmental knowledge and practice through technology transfer and training activities, to provide and improve the technical capability of TMR staff and improve their ability to meet their own geospatial data needs. Provide technical leadership and governance by developing GIS and cartographic policies, guidelines and related standards.
Participate and represent the Region in State-wide occupational and technical working groups.
• Maintain knowledge and understanding of technological developments, specifications, standards and procedures relating to managing, processing and disseminating geospatial information.
• Fully support employment equity, ethical practice and workplace health and safety. You will have the responsibility to ensure that you, any reporting staff and peers understand and adhere to TMR policies in the areas of: Code of Conduct, Workplace Health and Safety, Equity & Diversity, and financial delegation and practices.
Mandatory qualifications and conditions
• Minimum of a 3-year degree from a tertiary institute in Spatial Science (GIS), or an equivalent qualification in a similar discipline, from an approved tertiary institute.
• Professional experience in similar GIS roles with similar requirements.
• A current Class ‘C' class Driver's License
• Due to this role having access to sensitive data, a criminal history check will be undertaken prior to appointment to the role.
