Biosecurity Queensland (BQ) plays a leadership role in the biosecurity system in collaboration with its stakeholders. BQ leads the Queensland Government's efforts to protect our way of life, environment, biodiversity, human and animal health, industries and economy from plant and animal pest and disease threats. Through supporting the collective efforts of our stakeholders and all Queenslanders, BQ will continue to protect our state and Australia from emerging plant and animal pests and diseases and effectively manage existing ones.

Invasive Plants and Animals (IPA) significantly affect the environment, agricultural production, infrastructure, human health and our way of life in general. The IPA program directs, facilitates and delivers strategic and targeted action to reduce the impact of invasive species in Queensland.

As our Biosecurity Officer, you will:
• Support local government with their local biosecurity planning processes with multiple stakeholders across coastal and rangeland areas, ensuring the plans are cost-effective, timely and consistent with state and national priorities.
• Undertake compliance and enforcement using the powers of an Inspector under the Biosecurity Act 2014 to protect Queensland from the introduction, movement and keeping of prohibited and restricted biosecurity matter.
• Participate in biosecurity operations directed at the eradication of invasive pest plants and animals in high priority situations in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
• Participate in biosecurity preparedness and prevention activities (targeted engagement, surveillance and monitoring) and biosecurity incidents as required.
• Contribute to programs for enhancing the skills, knowledge and personal development of stakeholders to enable them to deliver improved invasive species management services to a wide range of clients.
• Participate in state, regional and local biosecurity operations directed at the eradication of invasive pest plants and animals in high priority situations in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
• Raise the level of awareness and commitment of local governments, landholders and other stakeholders of the need for invasive species management, including the promotion of the department's activities online and at conferences and meetings.
• Assist with the development and review of policies and operational procedures, and provide the Senior Principal Biosecurity Officer with authoritative, reliable and timely information and advice.
• Assist with the preparation of budget submissions, monitor expenditure and report on budget variances as required.
• Provide internal and external clients with accurate and timely technical advice on best practice for the control of invasive species and contribute to the development of advisory publications and electronic information systems and identify inadequacies in control technology.
