You will liaise and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to improve service delivery for clients and you will also have an opportunity to contribute to policy developments and law reform issues. The work is challenging and complex, but rewarding.

Key Details:

  • Position is Temporary Full time from date of appointment till 3 August 2026 with the possibility of extension or permanent appointment.

The successful candidate will play an integral role in the following:

  • Represent clients, including preparing matters, instructing counsel and personally appearing as an advocate in complex family law and related matters.
  • Help the principal lawyer to supervise legal work and develop the legal skills of, train and guide staff within the regional office, Legal Aid Queensland lawyers statewide and also external legal practitioners, regarding family law and related matters.
  • As necessary, provide duty lawyer services and legal information and advice to clients and the public.
  • Support Legal Aid Queensland's contributions to policy, procedure, law reform and legal service delivery initiatives as required, and participate in the development of team plans and work practices.
  • Help maintain networks with relevant external stakeholders.
  • Develop and provide continuing professional development to Legal Aid Queensland staff and preferred suppliers and also contribute to community legal education of external stakeholders to increase awareness of family law issues.
  • If appropriately qualified, you may act in the child's best interest as an independent children's lawyer, and separate representative in family law and child protection matters.

About You:

  • You have extensive experience in the conduct of family law and related matters including preparation, representation and advocacy.
  • You have a detailed knowledge of the practice and procedure of family and related law and are able to contribute to changes in policies, procedures and systems. You are also committed to self-development and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the law and procedure.
  • You contribute to the professional development of others including, providing clear guidance, constructive feedback and legal supervision.
