The Procurement team in the Financial Services Branch drives impactful outcomes through strategic procurement.
This role involves leading strategic sourcing initiatives for high-value, high-risk, and complex categories to maximise departmental benefits. It requires overseeing supplier selection and negotiation processes while engaging key stakeholders to ensure alignment with operational needs. Supporting the manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the team by mentoring procurement staff, fostering professional growth, and contributing to a high-performing, cohesive unit.
You will have the opportunity to assist in developing compliant procurement policies, provide expert advice to clients, and strengthen governance through contributions to the Corporate Procurement Plan and Forward Procurement Schedule.

This position is part of a dynamic team leading strategic sourcing initiatives, overseeing supplier selection, engaging key stakeholders, offering high-level advice to customers and clients, and contributing to strengthening procurement governance within the department.
About the role:
- Drive Strategic Sourcing Initiatives: Lead the development and execution of procurement strategies for high-value, high-risk, and complex categories to maximise departmental benefits.
- Supplier Selection & Negotiation: Manage supplier selection and negotiation processes, ensuring alignment with operational needs and involving key stakeholders for collaborative decision-making.
- Staff Mentorship & Management: Support the manager by mentoring procurement staff, fostering professional growth, and ensuring strong team performance.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders and team members within the Department of Justice to support departmental goals.
- Policy Development & Compliance: Develop and enforce procurement policies and procedures that comply with legislative requirements, government policies, and departmental guidelines, ensuring alignment with whole-of-government directives.
- Expert Procurement Advice: Provide senior-level expertise and guidance on procurement practices, offering high-level advice to clients and customers.
- Procurement Planning & Governance: Contribute to the development of the Corporate Procurement Plan and Forward Procurement Schedule to strengthen procurement governance within the department.
About you:
- You enjoy working as part of a team but equally have the ability to work on your own initiative.
- Are someone who takes accountability for the implementation and quality of outcomes, through your professionalism, determination, and transparency.
- Demonstrated flexibility to changing expectations and the ability to adjust your approach to meet new requirements.
- Possession of a Procurement Certification Level 3 through a Diploma of Procurement and Contracting or equivalent, is highly desirable
- Demonstrated experience managing strategic procurement activities is highly regarded.
- Demonstrated experience in providing excellent customer service is essential.
