QBuild is a commercialised business unit of the Queensland Government. It has been Queensland Government's builder for over 160 years, playing an important role in communities across the state by building and maintaining government-owned assets such as schools, social housing, police stations and correctional and health facilities.
About the role
You will play a pivotal role in supporting QBuild's ambition to strengthen Queensland's building and construction industry by providing exceptional high-level advice to senior management including detailed statistical reporting.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide strong leadership by addressing critical issues and developing and implementing the strategic interventions necessary to ensure the success of Workplace Health and Safety (WH&S) strategies across QBuild NQ.
- Provide expert knowledge and advice to the region, relating to strategic safety and risk management issues and the delivery of WH&S management programs, to enhance performance of NQ.
- Develop and lead the implementation of organisational change strategies to improve safety culture and performance across QBuild NQ.
- Manage the implementation and development of the Safety Management System, WH&S risk identification and management and audit programs across QBuild NQ.
- Drive continuous improvement of WH&S programs and safety culture to support the achievement of corporate objectives.
- Manage and lead WH&S staff to plan, implement and manage strategic and operational WH&S management and audit programs.
- Report to stakeholders, represent QBuild and effectively engage in dealings with departmental personnel, other agencies and industry groups as appropriate in order to progress initiatives, projects, strategies and policies that support and enhance WH&S management within QBuild NQ.
- Take a lead role in deploying the QBuild “Towards Zero Harm” Action Plan across QBuild
- Proactively manage the work performance and personal conduct of your staff.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Thorough knowledge of workplace health safety legislation, codes of practice and standards applicable to the building construction and maintenance industry, with proven experience in implementing requirements of Health and Safety Standards such as AS/NZS 4801 relevant to the building industry.
- Certificate IV in WHS would be highly desirable
