CAD – Civil, Administrative and Disciplinary; Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal, Courts and Tribunals; Brisbane

The Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT) is part of the Courts and Tribunals division within the Department of Justice (DoJ).

QCAT is an independent tribunal established under the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal Act 2009. QCAT plays an integral role in the Queensland justice system with a mandate to provide a quick and inexpensive avenue to resolve and determine disputes, applications, reviews and referrals in a wide range of jurisdictions.

This position will be in either the Human Rights Division (HuRD) or Civil, Administrative and Disciplinary (CAD) Division.

You will be responsible for managing a caseload of complex files and supervising and mentoring Registry Officers and Assistant Registry Officers.

  • Provide strong and effective leadership, coaching and management to the registry team ensuring a supportive and cohesive workplace environment for all staff.
  • Keep tribunal stakeholders at the centre of service delivery and respond to their needs in a trauma-aware and compassionate manner, ensuring the prompt resolution of enquiries, requests issues and complaints.
  • Cultivate and nurture professional and collaborative relationships based on respectful and confidential engagement with key stakeholders including members of the judiciary and their staff, government agencies, self-represented litigants, and the public to provide effective service delivery and support.
  • Support Registry Officers in the efficient management of daily operations and the coordination of tribunal proceedings and the delivery of services including: - the preparation and processing of complex court matters; workforce planning; performance management; staff development and the provision of timely and constructive feedback to direct reports to contribute to the achievement of strategic and operational goals.
  • Act as the point of escalation for your colleagues to recognise and action risks relating to Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence (DFSV) and anti-social behaviours of tribunal users by completing prescribed assessments to manage the risks presented, and then determining appropriate actions and pathways for information sharing with other internal or external parties.
  • Provide information to parties or members of the public on the role of the tribunal, its processes, procedures or legislative provisions, in person or by telephone.
  • Be responsible for complex file management with minimal supervision, including accurately maintaining and reviewing case files. Review and action applications, including providing required information to all parties and ensuring the file is progressed in accordance with the QCAT business processes and current legislation.
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing community awareness and understanding of the justice system, while effectively achieving organisational objectives and supporting tribunal users from disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Identify and develop improvement initiatives and innovative processes to increase the effectiveness of your activities.
  • Drive a culture of continuous learning, goal achievement, self-reflection and motivation within the registry team while reinforcing contemporary knowledge, practices and responsiveness to constructive feedback.
  • Support transparent financial, human resource, data and risk management practices to ensure accountability and efficiency.
  • Contribute to the delivery of QCAT's ongoing services and success by undertaking, as needed, assignments and projects that utilise capabilities and/or provide a development opportunity.
