An exciting opportunity exists for a Clinical Nurse to demonstrate knowledge and skills of cancer care nursing at an advanced level. The role requires expert communication skills, knowledge and clinical leadership in patient assessment, education, management of oncology and haematology treatments and related side effects and supportive care needs.

The Clinical Nurse provides leadership in Ward 5D as Team Leader and clinically providing care to a patient assignment. The Clinical Nurse is required to demonstrate broader knowledge and skills in cancer care, such as management of central venous access devices, administration of blood products, and an understanding of the cancer treatment modalities of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biotherapies, radiation therapy and surgery.

The Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service (SCHHS) Cancer Care Service (CCS) is the leading provider of integrated evidence-based care for persons affected by cancer and blood disorders within the Sunshine Coast Community. CCS operates as a ‘hub and spoke' model, with services centrally coordinated from Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH). CCS provides haematology, medical oncology, and radiation oncology services. Consultant Oncologists and Haematologists are based at SCUH and provide outreach services to Gympie and Nambour. Day Therapy Units and Outpatient clinics are provided at SCUH, Gympie and Nambour. The Radiation Oncology department is based at SCUH.

Sunshine Coast Health is in southeast Queensland and extends through the coastal and hinterland areas from Caloundra in the south and Gympie in the north.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Practice in accordance with code of ethics, professional standards and legislation affecting nursing practice by maintaining current knowledge and competence within scope of position.
  • Practice with advanced cancer care knowledge and skills for the safe assessment, education and support of patients receiving inpatient cancer treatment. Including knowledge and skills of broader cancer treatments such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation therapy and their related side effects. Knowledge and skills in the management of central venous access devices.
  • Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with Sunshine Coast Health Values.
  • Adhere to defined service quality standards, health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being understand to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

Remuneration value up to $131 900 p.a., comprising salary between $107 960 - $115 604 p.a. (f/t), or salary rates: $54.44 - $58.30 p.h. (p/t), employer contribution to superannuation (up to 12.75%) and annual leave loading (17.5%) (Nurse Grade 6 (1) (full time or part time position available, flexible hours.).
