The Wave (Rail) Project
The Wave - Stage 1 and 2 (Rail), previously known as the Direct Sunshine Coast Rail Line project, is a generational infrastructure project that will revolutionise travel for the Sunshine Coast region, creating a seamless public transport network for the region. The Wave will deliver heavy passenger rail from Beerwah to Birtinya and metro-style vehicles will provide links between Birtinya, Mountain Creek, Maroochydore CBD and the Sunshine Coast Airport.
The rail component is a mega-project, with $5.5 billion committed towards delivery of Stage 1 to Caloundra that will help shape the region and unlock new housing and economic opportunities. The project is now in the pre-delivery phase, with procurement underway and construction activities expected to commence late 2026, subject to approval. In March 2025, the Queensland Government committed to delivery of The Wave, which includes rail from Caloundra to Birtinya (Stage 2).
Engineering and Technology
The Engineering and Technology (E&T) Branch within the Infrastructure Management and Delivery Division of TMR provides technical expertise to support the Department's innovative and value-for-money design solutions. By staying at the forefront of national and international best practice and facilitating relationships between industry and TMR, E&T ensures the department has access to the most advanced and cost-effective innovations.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
• Provide support to senior management in the management of procurement activities to ensure effective procurement of services and materials to allow the timely delivery of:
• For The Wave: Stage 1 and 2 project
• For E&T: the delivery of the Queensland Government's Queensland Transport Infrastructure Program (QTRIP) and the Queensland Road Safety (QRS) Program.
• Lead and manage research and analysis of data, identify risks and issues and develop and implement innovative procurement strategies and solutions to improve project delivery.
• Ensure contract managers are effectively managing contracts through successful application of contract management plans. Consult widely across all management teams to ensure effective procurement of services and materials to allow the timely delivery of the program of works.
• Maintain an understanding and awareness of industry and supplier procurement best practices, innovation and market intelligence and trends to build and maintain relationships with all stakeholders and improve productivity.
• Actively manage, develop, consult and negotiate internal and external stakeholder relationships including internal clients, suppliers, industry, peer organisations and public sector bodies.
• Model behaviors and attitudes aligning with TMR values and work collaboratively with the team to develop a positive team culture and support effective relationships at all levels.
• Actively manage individual and team performance and provide supportive leadership to develop procurement capability for within the team.
