Senior Privacy Officer

As Senior Privacy Officer you will be part of a multidisciplinary team responsible for managing the QPS’ privacy governance framework and statutory compliance obligations. Reporting to the Principal Privacy Officer you will contribute to the research, development and implementation of policies, procedures and training that promote a proactive privacy culture in the QPS.

The core capability requirements for this role include:
• Respond to information privacy enquiries, breaches and complaints relating to the handling of personal information under the Information Privacy Act 2009.
• Provide high quality advice and assistance to QPS staff and members of the public on privacy issues and QPS information privacy policy, practices and
procedures.
• Investigate and manage privacy breaches and complaints received by the QPS, in consultation with relevant stakeholders, including the Office of the Information Commissioner.
• Develop and deliver information privacy training to QPS staff.
• Foster relationships with key internal and external privacy stakeholders, including the Office of the Information Commissioner.
• Identify privacy risks and issues and their impacts, and analyse, evaluate and recommend alternative courses of action to achieve legislative and strategic
objectives.
• Contribute to the development, review and maintenance of QPS privacy related policies, standards, guides and tools.
• Prepare and review reports, briefing notes, submissions and departmental and other correspondence on QPS privacy issues in accordance with QPS requirements.
• Monitor, analyse and report as appropriate on developments in policy, law and technology which have an impact on information privacy both generally and in the QPS context.
Role Requirements:
Technical/ Operational/ Educational experience - Previous experience in privacy practice, policy development and/or complaint management in a related field is highly desirable.

This role requires integrity, discretion and tact in dealing with sensitive and confidential information and the ability to conduct investigations that are underpinned by the principles of natural justice and procedural fairness.
