The Legal Services Commission is seeking an experienced legal practitioner to join our Litigation Team, which is instrumental to the outcomes of the regulation of Queensland’s legal profession. You will be part of a team responsible for providing authoritative and timely legal advice to the Commissioner and directing litigation on behalf of the Commissioner, including discipline applications, prosecution of summary offences, and other regulatory litigation such as injunctions and banning orders.
Private sector experience will be a great advantage in providing the successful candidate with the skills and experience that is required to deal effectively with the litigation that follows from the Commission’s complaint and investigation processes. Experience with criminal prosecutions will also be beneficial.

As a senior Lawyer with the Commission's Litigation team, you will undertake a range of legal work to assist in the performance of the Commission's functions under the Legal Profession Act 2007 (Act). The role includes independent and collaborative work to support other lawyers, investigators, other regulatory litigators and the Commissioner in discharging regulatory functions. You will be part of a team responsible for providing authoritative and timely legal advice to the Commissioner and undertaking litigation on behalf of the Commissioner, including discipline applications, prosecution of summary offences, and other regulatory litigation such as injunctions and banning orders.
The Act provides for the appointment of the Legal Services Commissioner and grants the Commissioner the statutory powers, obligations, and functions to regulate the legal profession, acting in the public interest to protect the community by ensuring members of the public receive sound legal advice from competent, qualified legal practitioners, and safeguard the public from those purporting to practise law when not qualified or entitled to do so.
