Senior Right to Information (RTI) Officer

We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Senior RTI Officer. In this role, you will exercise a delegation of authority to deal with applications made to the QBCC under the Right to Information Act 2009 (RTI Act) and Information Privacy Act 2009 (IP Act), fulfilling a key role in upholding open and transparent government by informing our customers and the public about how we make decisions and perform our role as a Regulator. The position is based in Brisbane, and the successful candidate will have the option to work from home under an approved Flexible Work Arrangement for up to two day per week.

 

Key Outcomes and Accountabilities

  • Understand, interpret, and apply policy and legislation under the Right to Information Act 2009 and Information Privacy Act 2009.
  • Assist the Manager in meeting the team Charter and KPI's by applying basic accounting principles for financial cost analysis, budget and annual reporting when required.
  • Assess and exercise delegated decision making power under the Right to Information Act 2009 and Information Privacy Act 2009 regarding access, amendments and release of documents that are held by QBCC including complying with requests from other government agencies and industry bodies.
  • Provide detailed Prescribed Written Notices, Reasons for Decisions, Consulting letters and Charges Estimate Notices.

Candidate Attributes 

  1. Demonstrate high level skills in administering the Right to Information Act 2009 and the Information Privacy Act 2009 and the capacity to make complex decisions within strict timeframes using high standard verbal and written communication skills, including negotiation, problem solving and report writing.
  2. Demonstrate high level skills in providing advice and interpreting the Information Privacy Act 2009 and applying the Information Privacy Principles, including the understanding or the ability to rapidly acquire an understanding of relevant privacy and confidentiality legislation.
  3. Demonstrate ability to thoroughly research, analyse and apply information relevant to legislative requirements relating to the release of information and ensuring accurate and thorough decision making.
  4. Build and sustain positive relationships with team members and other internal and external customers with a focus on continuous improvement by working collaboratively and problem solving.
