Senior Program Officer

Come and join the Community and Personal Histories Unit at the Department. We are looking for an experienced researcher to join a passionate team The team is dedicated to improving access for Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples to historical government records. You will work collaboratively with our clients and stakeholders to support the unit to provide high quality and timely responses to client requests.
It is important to reflect on whether this is the right role for you. It is important to note that in this role you will regularly come across historical records that often contain personal and culturally sensitive information. Given this, the Department prioritises a trauma informed environment that promotes physical, emotional and cultural safety.

Your contribution and key responsibilities:
Deliver comprehensive research analysis and reports and respond to often complex and sensitive client inquiries.
Manage access to restricted departmental records held at Queensland State Archives and off-site storage in accordance with access policies and public records and privacy legislation.
Assist with onboarding new staff, triage of complex client requests, negotiation and consultation with stakeholders including Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples, Indigenous and non-Indigenous organisations and relevant government agencies.
Establish and maintain positive working relationships and work collaboratively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
Contribute, as a team member to the planning, reporting, risk management processes and other operations of CPH including on-going development and implementation of policies and procedures.
What we are looking for…….
A team member who can communicate effectively with Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples; and has a high level of knowledge around both cultures and societies from a historical and contemporary perspective.
Ability to recognise and articulate the interests of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples and to consult in accordance with cultural protocols.
Demonstrated high level research and analytical skills, including the ability to undertake complex searches for archival records using record management systems, to compile succinct reports and correspondence; and assist with development and maintenance of systems, including data management and analysis.
Flexibility including taking initiative and the escalation of risks in the delivery of work outcomes, often where there are competing priorities, in a fast paced and dynamic work environment.
High level communication skills, including empathy and the ability to cultivate productive working relationships.
Ongoing reflection around working within a trauma informed framework, including managing vicarious trauma, when accessing and conveying information involving personal and sensitive records.
