About the Role

As the Coordinator, you will lead and drive the Client Assistance Service, ensuring holistic and client-focused services are delivered to particularly vulnerable clients. In this role, you will provide legal services, including specialist legal information, advice, and referrals on a variety of legal matters, while also identifying and implementing appropriate legal pathways for clients and fostering relationships with partner referral agencies. You will manage a team of professional and administrative staff, overseeing recruitment, performance management, and mentoring, while also developing and delivering continuing professional development for Legal Aid Queensland staff and contributing to community legal education for external stakeholders. Additionally, you will represent clients in legal matters, prepare cases, and advocate on their behalf, while contributing to policy, procedure, law reform, and legal service delivery initiatives. A commitment to maintaining a high standard of practice through governance and risk management is essential, as is fostering an inclusive workplace that prioritises diversity, inclusion, and wellbeing.

Success Criteria

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Knowledge of crime, family, and/or civil law matters, including providing advice, preparation, and representation for clients with complex legal issues.
  • Experience managing a multidisciplinary team, ideally providing legal services to vulnerable clients.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders and clients with complex needs.
  • The ability to apply trauma-informed practice principles.
  • A commitment to delivering quality services and achieving outcomes through collaboration.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Admission or eligibility for immediate admission as a legal practitioner in Queensland.
  • Eligibility for a current practising certificate and entry in the High Court Register of Practitioners.
  • A current driver's licence (reasonable adjustments will be considered).
